Global Leadership Symposium - Australia

Are you interested in furthering your international knowledge about aspects of leadership, culture and diplomacy? Macquarie's Global Leadership Symposium- Australia is a unique program where university students and recent graduates travel to Australia's capital Canberra to explore these issues.

  • Visit the High Commissioner of Pakistan at her private residence for an exclusive briefing and lunch

  • Meet with staff from Companion House, a not-for-profit organisation assisting victims of torture and trauma

  • Learn about UK-Australia relations in a private briefing at the High Commission of the UK

  • Discover how science gives life to innovative ideas through a hands-on workshop at Questacon

  • Explore Australia's Aboriginal heritage in a briefing on Aboriginal history, culture and traditions

  • Enjoy a behind-the-scenes conservation tour at the National Zoo and take part in a private feeding session with tigers and bears

  • Forge friendships with delegates from all around the world!


DATES

Depart: early morning Thursday 31 March Return: early evening Sunday 3 April.

PROJECT TEAMS

All delegates will be placed in a project team which must complete activities at each visit and present a project on the final morning. Certificates and prizes will be awarded for the best presentation. 

ACCOMMODATION 

The Medina Classic Canberra is located in the stylish suburb of Kingston, a short walk to shops, cafes and bars. Each apartment includes two twin-share rooms, bathroom, lounge area and kitchen.

Applications

Applications are open to all Macquarie university students provided they will be 18+ years of age at the time the Symposium runs.

Delegates are selected by Macquarie staff in a competitive application process and represent the university and the Global Leadership Program along with study abroad and exchange students from around the world. 

The Symposia trips will be advertised via email and social media as soon as all details are confirmed. You will be able to apply via application forms with a series of open ended questions. Application is competitive and does not work on a first-come-first-served basis
